Teenage St Mirren star Dylan Reid has has his “head turned” by interest from a host of clubs – including Rangers but the Paisley club want to offer the 16-year-old a new deal.

The Ibrox club are not the only side reportedly interested in the young midfielder with Old Firm rivals Celtic and unnamed clubs in England and France also having one eye on the player.

Reid became St Mirren’s youngest ever Scottish Premiership player when he came off the bench in their 3-0 defeat to Rangers at Ibrox earlier in the month and Buddies boss Jim Goodwin hopes to keep him around for a little while yet.

Goodwin is hoping that a clear pathway into the first team will encourage Reid to commit but admits the player has had his “head turned” by all the interest.

“Dylan’s been brilliant,” said Goodwin [NTOF].

“The academy is really important to us as a club and I’ve said on numerous occasions that I want to be recognised as a manager who gives youngsters opportunities. Age doesn’t scare me.

“Dylan has turned 16 and we gave him his debut at Ibrox, which is no more than he deserved. He’s been training with the first-team for a number of weeks and he looks as if he belongs here. He’s not out of place.

“We are very hopeful that we will be able to sort out a longer term deal in the next couple of days. Talks are ongoing and that would be brilliant for the club. I had a really good meeting with his family to explain my feelings on his development.

“He’s had his head turned by a number of huge clubs and we aren’t just talking about just in Scotland.

“The two big boys here would love to have him, half-a-dozen of the big clubs in England would love to have him and there’s teams in Germany as well.”

Rangers will be routinely linked with the best young Scottish talent around and given the progress already made by Reid it’s unsurprising both the Ibrox side and Celtic are being linked.

Dylan Reid isn’t the only teenager reportedly interesting both Rangers and Celtic either with one young winger whose attracted interest from Man City also reportedly a target.
