A report is claiming that Premier League outfit West Ham are interested in signing Rangers full-back Borna Barisic amid much transfer talk concerning the left-full-back position at Ibrox.
Football Insider claims they have inside knowledge that the Hammers are plotting a January move for the talented Croatian international to provide competition to Aaron Cresswell.
West Ham’s other left-back – Arthur Masaku – has just undergone knee surgery this month and faces an extended spell on the side-lines for David Moyes’ side.
According to that report – which is the only one claiming interest from the Olympic Stadium in Barisic – a fee north of £8m could be enough to convince Rangers to sell.
That’s despite Barisic being valued at around £22m when Tottenham Hotspur were linked to the creative full-back only last season [90min].
These claims also come amid the suggestion that Rangers are looking at HNK Gorica full-back Marijan Cabraja as a long-term replacement for countryman Borna.
Cabraja, 23, claimed that Rangers were interested in his services earlier in the week but admitted any move could depend on the future of Barisic.
“It is true that Rangers are following me. Contact has been established but it all depends on how the situation with Borna Barisic develops,” said Cabraja [Daily Record].
“I don’t believe that the Scots will pay as much as Gorica are asking for, but let’s leave that aside now, the only thing that matters to me is how we will play in Split on Sunday.”
If Barisic – who is considered a key first team player at Rangers – is to move on it could kick off a chain reaction of left-back transfers, with Gorica reportedly eyeing a Cabraja replacement.
