Premier League chair eyes England international amid Rangers star links

Premier League side Crystal Palace remain hopeful of signing Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher amid links to Rangers star Joe Aribo.

Nigerian international Aribo – who has played the most games in world football this season – is out of contract in the summer of 2023 and with a year left to run on his deal it’s likely the 25-year-old will need to sign on or be shipped out in the coming months.

One of the clubs most prominently linked to the ex-Charlton man, Crystal Palace on paper appears a good fit amid their policy of signing top young Championship talents and in building a vibrant young squad.

But Rangers won’t be letting their silky midfielder leave on the cheap and there have also been doubts regarding potential Palace interest in Aribo.

Nonetheless, the story continues to rumble but the news surrounding Crystal Palace loanee Conor Gallagher will be of particular interest to supporters.

Chelsea sent Gallagher on loan to Selhurst Park this season and the 20-year-old was a revelation, scoring eight goals and laying on five assists for the Eagles and earning his first three caps for the England national team.

Ahead of the new campaign, Palace chairman Steve Parish is clear the London club want Gallagher again next season and for Rangers fans watching on the midfielder’s future may well have a hand in what happens to Joe Aribo this summer.

“Conor’s future and that decision lies not with us but with him and Chelsea. They’re the people that have to decide,” said Parish [Independent].

“Once they decide what their choice is, they know where we are and what we want. We’re not going to pretend any different but we’ve got to respect them as a football club because he’s their player.

“At the end of the season he goes back to Chelsea and they’ll make their decision.

“Based on that, we’ll be there and if everybody thinks it’s the right thing for him to come back then we would love it.

“If it doesn’t work out, we wish him all the best as well.”

We’re not sure if any prospective Crystal Palace interest in Joe Aribo depends on the situation with Conor Gallagher but they play in the same position on the field.

We’ll watch this one closely but in the meantime, read what one of Aribo’s teammates had to say about potentially signing a new deal.
