Charlie Adam’s Stoke City future is effectively over after being told by his manager that he can leave the club in January.
Gary Rowett has only played the former Rangers man on five occasions this season. Adam has fallen out-of-favour at the Potteries, and is likely to be departing the club during the mid-season break up in Scotland.
The midfielder has spoken in the past about how much he would love to return to Ibrox. His admiration of Steven Gerrard’s work sees him wanting to find his way back to Ibrox once more.

This has been met with anything but approval from many Rangers supporters. The general consensus is that Adam wouldn’t be an improvement on anything the club already have.
Rowett, however, has stated that the midfielder is free to leave the club in any case. Speaking to the Stoke Sentinel, Adam’s manager had this to say:
“I don’t think Charlie’s situation has changed since the summer because we have been open-minded.
“In Charlie’s case, he has spoken about it more than we have spoken about it. He works really, really hard in training, his attitude is good and he’s quite an influential player in the dressing room.
“That’s testament to his professionalism and he is so desperate to play, so yes we are open-minded to that (Adam leaving) and have been for a while now.”
No confirmed interest
To be fair to Rangers, the club haven’t confirmed themselves as interested in Adam. They haven’t even been linked with him as an interested party either. All speculation is coming from Adam himself as he wants the move.
There’s no venom in the reasons for fans not wanting Adam back. He had a terrific period at the club under Walter Smith and did a decent job. He was one of the less spectacular players under the Rangers legend, and made 86 appearances in total for the club.

Since then, Adam has had a successful career down in England. A highly successful stint at Blackpool saw him win promotion before competing well in the Premier League. He then moved on to Liverpool in a deal worth £9million in Adam’s career high.
The Scotland international has certainly had a decorated career at club level. It doesn’t, however, mean that a move to Ibrox should be on the cards in January. With the likes of Steven Davis being linked to Ibrox, there are better alternatives than Adam.
Every Rangers fan would be keen to wish Adam well, but a return to the club? Adam simply isn’t good enough.
