Rangers have already seen a number of players parting ways with the club at the end of the season

Danny Rohl made the decisions on the futures of a few of those players, but is no longer at Ibrox, with Derek McInnes now tasked with the rebuild.

There have been five new signings made this summer, with more departures than arrivals, and things are only expected to get busier over the next two months.

Derek Cornelius in line for a move to Genoa

Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that Genoa are keen on signing Derek Cornelius despite his disappointing season on loan at Ibrox.

The 28-year-old joined Rangers last summer and there were hopes that he would become the first choice and guide the club to the title.

However, despite a few promising games, he failed to make another appearance for the club since an injury sustained back in November.

Rohl had a falling out with Cornelius, which became all the more clear when the defender was available for Canada during the international break and looked fine, but the manager kept speaking about his lack of fitness.

He was even asked to train away from the Rangers first team, with Rohl sending a clear message to him that he was being frozen out.

It became evident that the Light Blues had no plans of signing him permanently from Marseille come the end of the season.

Why did things not work out for Cornelius at Rangers?

Apart from his fractured relationship with Rohl, Cornelius battled issues with his fitness, with the Scottish game not being the right fit for him.

His injury got worse as he was likely playing through it during international friendlies, which did not sit well with those at Rangers.

The feeling around Ibrox was that he prioritised his country over the club and it is a view that was shared by the fans as well.

Also, when he did decide he was ready to play, Rohl already had a settled team and did not want to re-integrate someone into the squad who he felt was not willing to fight for the club.
