Back in June 2022, Rangers decided to sell Cedric Itten to BSC Young Boys with Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Ross Wilson agreeing to the sale.

The Switzerland international endured a tough time at Ibrox, scoring just eight goals in 49 appearances for Rangers.

Now – however – Itten has bounced back from his nightmarish stint at Ibrox in some style.

What’s the story?

Well, let’s just clear this up before anything else – Itten was not good enough for Rangers, and we are in no way suggesting that Van Bronckhorst was wrong to sell him.

Nevertheless, nobody can deny that the 26-year-old has responded well since joining BSC Young Boys.

Itten has scored 16 goals in 30 appearances so far this season, while also providing 11 assists for his teammates.

27 goal involvements in 30 games is a superb record, to say the least.

Rangers earned £1.5m from the sale of Itten, which represented a £1.2m loss on their initial £2.7m investment.

In truth, it was still fairly good business to receive £1.5m for the Swiss striker, given the fact he only scored four goals in 23 appearances throughout the 2021/22 campaign.

Rangers need someone to make similar impact to Cedric Itten

Itten has transformed BSC Young Boys this season, with his goals putting the Swiss side 18 points clear at the top of the table, having finished third last term without him.

With Alfredo Morelos allegedly on his way to Sevilla and Kemar Roofe struggling to stay fit, Michael Beale must find someone who can make a similar impact to Itten at BSC Young Boys.

A goalscorer is arguably the most important cog of any successful side – therefore, Wilson must do his research to find a lethal marksman for Rangers this summer. It could make all the difference at Ibrox next season if he does.
