Philippe Clement set for double striker boost as crocked duo step up Rangers return

It appears strikers are like Glasgow buses at Rangers, with the club set to see two hitmen return to the squad after waiting all season for one.

Cyriel Dessers is a man under fire at Ibrox, with the Belgian-born Nigerian international now five games without a goal and not playing well.

Philippe Clement has had his hands tied somewhat, with only the inexperienced Hamza Igamane offering competition and Brazilian striker Danilo routinely crocked.

But with a hectic schedule on the horizon, it appears it’s not just the return of the ex-Feyenoord striker that is exciting the Rangers manager.

Philippe Clement watches Rangers B team romp

The Rangers coaching staff took in the Rangers B team clash with Stenhousemuir in the SPFL Trust Trophy on Tuesday evening (22/10).

Philippe Clement, Andries Ulderink, Nils Koppen and Alex Rae were amongst a delegation in the crowd to watch a number of young players and first-team stars take on the Scottish League One side.

And there was plenty for Big Phil and his associates to be pleased with, as Rangers romped to a 4-1 victory in the tournament’s fourth round.

The additions of Bailey Rice and Zak Lovelace from kick off were a sight for sore eyes, whilst Ianis Hagi and Brazilian striker Danilo also kicked off the match.

And both Rangers seniors played a crucial role, scoring in the game as they look to rebuild fitness ahead of making a tangible impact on the first-team.

Teenage winger Findlay Curtis opened the scoring in the match before Danilo got himself on the scoresheet four minutes before halftime.

Findlay Curtis would then go on to net his second of the match on the hour mark, before the Brazilian hitman went off.

Stenhousemuir then pulled one back through midfielder Blair Alston minutes later before Ianis Hagi put some gloss on the 4-1 victory by scoring from a corner.

Rangers set for double striker boost

The returning Danilo is a sight for sore eyes as Rangers fans lick their wounds following this weekend’s Scottish Premiership disappointment.

Gers manager Philippe Clement is a man under increasing pressure after an abject display against Kilmarnock led to a painful defeat at Rugby Park.

Blowing the chance to cut the gap at the top of the Premiership table, Rangers fans are running out of patience with a new-look squad with whom there is an increasing disconnect.

Brazilian striker Danilo, a £6m signing from Feyenoord last summer, is yet to make the sort of impact expected for that fee after a run of three major injuries.

Philippe Clement will be hoping the hitman will soon be back in the first-team squad making an impact with a run of challenging matches on the horizon at Ibrox.

But samba star Danilo is not the only Rangers striker option who is edging closer to more first-team involvement.

As explained by Four Lads Had a Dream, highly-rated teenage striker Zak Lovelace was subbed off at half-time at Forthbank Stadium because Philippe Clement is set to hand him more first-team opportunities.

The Rangers insider claims the decision to sub Lovelace off came from higher management, who wanted to protect the attacker after an inspired display from left-wing.

Zak Lovelace impressed on a start against St Mirren under Steven Davis last October but has struggled to recover from a serious injury sustained in the game.

It means Rangers could soon have four striker options in the team as Philippe Clement looks to stave off calls for his head at Ibrox.
