There is a typical narrative being created surrounding Rangers and Celtic after Philippe Clement managed to guide his team to the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
The Gers boss has an outstanding record since replacing Michael Beale, and yet, apparently the standard of football at Ibrox isn’t anything to write home about according to some.
One Celtic fan, who phoned into Clyde Superscoreboard has had an interesting take on looking up at Rangers in the league with Philippe Clement at the helm.
Rangers not impressing under Philippe Clement
As with in 2020/21, there is always an excuse when Rangers are top of the league.
On that occasion it was because there were no fans allowed in grounds.
There were no fans allowed in any grounds so why was it just Rangers that benefitted?
We also won the league in March.
Usually, it’s because they are poor, never because we are playing well.
According to one caller to CSSB, Rangers haven’t had a “great season” and, despite Celtic being “poor”, they are only two points behind, as if it is some kind of achievement.
Celtic were having a great season until about 10 days ago.
Philippe Clement has overturned a double-digits gap in the league, taking into consideration games in hand, won a domestic trophy and topped a Europa League group too in his short time as Rangers manager.
His season could only have been better if we had beaten Celtic at Parkhead and, let’s face it, that game could’ve gone either way.
It’s quite the claim when you consider what Clement inherited and the team that Ange Postecoglu left Brendan Rodgers.
They should have been out of sight by now.
But they aren’t.
And it’s nothing complicated.
Rangers are scoring more goals and conceding fewer, they are also creating more chances under Philippe Clement.
To look at Rangers in the last 16 of the Europa League and say we are a poor team is wild.
Yes, Celtic can and will improve, but so will Rangers.
We have genuinely key players missing and have still managed to pass them.
Why would there be any negativity around Rangers? We’ve lost one game since September.
