Peter Lovenkrands questions Rangers’ finances as he guts ‘unacceptable’ Philippe Clement form

Peter Lovenkrands was left in no uncertain terms what it means to play for Rangers during a six-year stint in Glasgow.

The former Danish winger joined the Gers as a fresh-faced 20-year-old and played a key role in no fewer than seven domestic trophy wins at Ibrox.

So when Peter Lovenkrands sees Rangers struggling under Philippe Clement the former Danish international has begun questioning the current standards in Glasgow.

Peter Lovenkrands questions Philippe Clement decision

Speaking to the Warm Up as the pressure mounts on Philippe Clement, Peter Lovenkrands reckons the Rangers manager is lucky to still be in a job.

But the Rangers legend has asked if there is something deep beneath the surface at Ibrox with the club’s ’unacceptable’ form yet to turn around.

Rangers find effectively themselves out of all three domestic trophies this season, with Celtic marching towards a sixth treble in nine years.

“Realistically they’re not going to get medals this year,” Lovenkrands said.

”They’re not. No silverware, again.

”It’s a season where like you say, 13 points behind Celtic. That’s not acceptable in that way, so that’s gone. Two cups you’re out of, it’s gone.

”In any other circumstances a manager normally for Rangers or Celtic would probably have been sacked.

”So there must be something going on. Is it a financial thing? Probably.

”I look at it and go it must be something. Why else is that happening? There’s been too many managers lately gone.

”Is the thing that we’re trying to stop sacking managers all the time? This is not acceptable either.”

Rangers ‘probably’ won’t win Europa League

Philippe Clement is certainly hanging on by a thread as things stand and Peter Lovenkrands reckons not even Rangers’ progress in Europe can paper over the cracks.

The Gers’ domestic season is effectively over with the 13 point gap between themselves and Celtic insurmountable at this stage whilst the club have failed in both cups.

The Europa League stands as Rangers’ only legitimate chance of silverware this season and Lovenkrands reckons it’s a long shot which only shows up the club’s domestic failings.

”Europe is the one that kind of over shines it a bit and fills the crack and is that the hope of can we maybe go and do something there?” Lovenkrands said.

”We all know we’re probably not going to go and win it. We can give it a good go but it’s not going to probably be where we’re going to get the silverware, not at all.

”It has to be domestic.”
