Former England international goalkeeper Paul Robinson has tipped Wes Foderingham for the Ibrox exit door if he continues to face the bulk of his time on the bench.

The Ibrox back-up goalkeeper was deposed by club legend Allan McGregor who returned to Glasgow last summer.

It’s a move which has bore fruit for Rangers with McGregor proving time and again his value to the club as a goalkeeper.

But for Foderingham, that has meant limited appearances for the club since last season, featuring for the most part in the cup competitions.

With the former Swindon goalkeeper’s contract expiring next season, it’s a situation which Paul Robinson thinks may influence any decision on Foderingham’s future.

“He is a very talented keeper but when you’re in a team like that and a part of something good, you’re just biding your time and waiting for an opportunity,” said Robinson [Football Insider].

“I rate him as a goalkeeper, I rate him very highly, I think he’s very good.

“You’ve got someone like McGregor in front of you, at his age and that stage of his career if he’s not going to play every game, he isn’t going to stay there forever.

“Maybe he sees an endgame or an opportunity coming, and maybe the manager has spoken to him and just said ,’bide your time’.”

It’s a glowing commendation from Robinson and something Foderingham will surely appreciate given the stature of the 41-cap former England international.

Foderingham joined Rangers in 2015 on a free from Swindon Town and has gone on to make 141 appearances for the Ibrox club.

Should the goalkeeper choose to move on from Ibrox, there should be no shortage of suitors for his signature.
