Rangers loanee Josh McPake scored an important goal for Harrogate Town in a 2-2 draw with Lincoln City in EFL League Two on Tuesday.

McPake is a highly-rated young player who Gers coach Michael Beale described as having a ‘very bright future’ following his first-team debut in a Europa League qualifier against St Joseph’s in July 2019 [Scottish Sun].

Since then, he’s spent time out on loan in the SPFL with Dundee and Morton before heading south to Harrogate in January.

He’s played regularly on the left wing for the EFL newcomers and grabbed his third goal in his 20th appearance on Tuesday night.

Town were trailing 2-1 after 73 minutes at the EnviroVent Stadium and looking set for a third consecutive home defeat when McPake picked the ball up on the left side of the area and drilled a low finish across the keeper into the bottom right corner.

The pacy 19-year-old missed a decent chance to win the game at the death but his goal still earned his side just their second point in seven league matches since a win over Colchester United in early March.

The Scotland youth international is one of several Rangers wingers currently out on loan in the EFL and he had a better night than both Brandon Barker and Jordan Jones, with the former picking up a suspected knee injury in action for Oxford United and the latter being hooked after an hour in Sunderland’s 2-1 defeat at Wigan.

Following an extension in the summer of 2019, McPake is under contract at Ibrox until 2022.

Meanwhile, Rangers fans’ hopes of returning to Ibrox have been dealt an agonising blow by a Scottish Government update.
