Claudio Caniggia joined Rangers in the Summer of 2001 and would spend two trophy laden seasons with the club.
Amongst his haul of five trophies was that heroic treble in 02/03. Caniggia himself was the hero in the League Cup Final, netting the opener against Celtic. We would go on to 2-1.
But it could’ve been so different for Claudio. The Argentine icon revealed to the Dundee Telegraph that he could’ve also joined Celtic.

He decided on Ibrox for Champions League football and to increase his chances of playing in the World Cup in 2002 for Argentina. He went to the World Cup, though he never played, and he achieved great things at the club.
There’s no doubt the industrious, talented forward made the right choice. The fact he knocked Parkhead back for Ibrox will just make Rangers fans love him even more.
Even in his twilight Caniggia did a job for Rangers
Caniggia joined Rangers at the age of 33. He was still athletic, cheeky and had an ability to nip in for a first touch finish.
Celtic must’ve been raging he joined Rangers. He played a pivotal role in firing the club to a 50th league title. He even scored in the 6-1 final day drama to clinch us the title against Dunfermline.

And whilst the forward retains an affinity for Dundee, and perhaps a respect for Celtic’s advances, if it comes down to winning things there’s one club he’ll remember most fondly from his time in Scotland.
The Famous Glasgow Rangers.
Caniggia will be speaking at a special night in the city’s Westend at the end of December. Read more about it here.
