Former Rangers attacker Jason Cummings scored again on Sunday to continue his outstanding start to the 2021/22 season.

Cummings spent time on loan at Rangers from Nottingham Forest in 2018 and had a mixed time at Ibrox.

The forward scored six times in 18 appearances, including a Scottish Cup quarter-final hat-trick against Falkirk.

However, when Steven Gerrard arrived at the club in the summer of 2018, he decided against pursuing a permanent deal for the Scotland international.

Cummings then spent time on loan at Peterborough United and Luton Town, before being sold by Forest to Shrewsbury Town in 2019.

The 26-year-old didn’t reach his best levels at any of those EFL clubs, though, and returned to Scotland in January 2021, signing for Dundee.

After an encouraging few months at Dens Park at the end of last season, during which he helped them to promotion, Cummings has now really kicked on.

The former Ger opened the scoring on Sunday in a league clash against another of his former clubs, Hibernian, slotting home a finish from six yards in the 11th minute.

His opener in what turned out to be a 2-2 draw was his second goal in three Premiership appearances, after also netting on the opening day against St Mirren.

Cummings’ early efforts in the league are backing up his superb League Cup returns, with his overall tallies for the season now five goals and two assists from seven appearances.

Some supporters had concerns about Cummings’ attitude during his time at Ibrox and his stats didn’t suggest he was prolific enough to be the club’s main goalgetter.

The decision to send him back to Forest was undoubtedly the right one, but now, three years on, he looks focused and is finally realising his potential.

Meanwhile, a club insider has provided an update after a report claimed that Rangers were ‘considering’ a bid from Everton for Nathan Patterson.
