Old Firm fans must cut out embarrassing public attacks on players

For being the antithesis of one another, certain Old Firm fans are like two peas in a pod.
Over a weekend where we’ve saw Alfredo Morelos being allegedly harangued by Celtic fans poolside in Tenerife, we’ve also had Scott Brown and James Forrest wound up on camera in Dubai.
What’s worse is all the indulgent gloating about it on social media. It’s not required, it’s poor form, and more than anything, it’s embarrassing.

For some reason certain Old Firm fans regress into their 11-year-old selves with a swally and take it upon themselves to gun for rival players. It’s pathetic. Genuinely, there’s no other word to describe it.
I’m not saying don’t have banter. That’s part of the rivalry. But these incidents go way beyond what’s acceptable.
These are just ordinary people who are taking some time off work to relax. There’s no patter here, no banter. There’s an aggressive edge to it that makes the guilty party look like a drunken fool nine times out of ten.

No-one is laughing, we’re almost all simultaneously cringing.

Most ordinary Old Firm fans are not interested in behaviour like this. They don’t feel it another badge on their scarf so to speak.
If most were to see a rival player out and about, they wouldn’t get this childish compulsion to berate or insult them. It’s not pleasant and it just makes both you and your club look bad.
And I think that’s something fans on either side of the divide will agree with.
