Rangers have taken a significant step towards appointing Hearts manager Derek McInnes ahead of the new season.

The Light Blues appeared set to continue with Danny Rohl, but developments over the past few days have altered their plans.

RB Salzburg have been in talks with Rangers, and they now seem likely to appoint him as their new manager.

What would your concerns be about Derek McInnes replacing Danny Rohl?

Rangers touch base with Hearts over Derek McInnes appointment

Rangers have made official contact with Hearts to seek their permission about hiring McInnes, according to the Daily Record.

Salzburg are expected to confirm and announce Rohl’s appointment, which would leave the Gers without a manager.

They have considered multiple options, but McInnes is understood to be their leading candidate for the role.

Now that Danny Rohl seems set to leave Rangers, how would you rate his time at the club?

However, they have not even entered talks to reach an agreement with their former player, but they have taken a significant step towards making that happen.

Andrew Cavenagh is playing an active role in bringing the Hearts boss to Ibrox, and discussions have been held with his advisers.

The Light Blues chairman is currently in the same city, Boston, as McInnes, to watch Scotland’s opening World Cup game against Haiti.

Hearts are aware of the Glasgow outfit’s interest in their manager and have stepped up their own search for a replacement.

Are Rangers speaking to any other manager?

Cavenagh knows that Rohl’s move to Salzburg is throwing a spanner in the works for him, but he has decided to act quickly.

As of now, the club are not speaking to any managers, and it seems like the first one they will talk to is McInnes.

It is unclear whether or not they will speak to multiple coaches before narrowing in on their preferred candidate, or if they will hire McInnes right away if talks go well.

Which of these three managers would you prefer at Rangers?

The smart approach would be to do the latter, but that will also be a time-consuming ordeal.

The hierarchy want a new manager in as soon as possible so that he can shape the transfer strategy and the club can then work to bring in his desired targets.

McInnes will have a few players he would like to sign right away and they are likely to be brought up during the interview stage.
