Derek Ferguson has now insisted one Rangers star should not be offered a new contract extension.
The man in question is left-back Borna Barisic, who has represented the Ibrox club since making a £2.2m switch from Osijek in 2018.
Barisic has been a tremendous servant to Rangers since, playing 223 times and assisting a whopping 52 goals thanks to his pinpoint crossing ability.
The 31-year-old has always had his doubters though and given he is out of contract at the end of the current season, many punters think it would be the right time for him and the club to naturally part ways.
Ferguson is of a similar school of thought and told the panel on the Open Goal podcast that if he was in a position to decide Barisic’s future, the full-back would have zero chances of staying with Gers.
Derek Ferguson doesn’t want new Rangers contract for Borna Barisic

Ferguson initially had his say on Ridvan Yilmaz, who he says hasn’t convinced him at all since signing for £5m from Besiktas in 2022.
And when given the chance to pick between Ridvan or Barisic for a starting spot in the Viaplay Cup Final this Sunday against Aberdeen, Ferguson wasted no time in choosing the more experienced Croatian.
However, Ferguson is certainly not Barisic’s biggest fan and would be quite happy to see the back of him once the 2023/24 campaign concludes.
Ferguson said: “It’s a difficult one for Barisic because he’s out of contract as well. Barisic plays within himself.”
Host Simon Ferry then quizzed the former Gers star on handing Barisic a new deal, to which he replied: “No chance. That’s a problem area for Rangers (at left-back). They need to suss that out and bring players in in January. Barisic and Ridvan are not good enough for me.”
