Amid the ongoing court chaos surrounding Sports Direct, Rangers and Mike Ashley, Newcastle United have just splashed a reported £40m for Brazillian forward Joelinton.
It’s a statement of intent from the Ashley owned Magpies with the highly-rated Hoffenheim forward a big step towards retaining the club’s Premier League status.
But does this gigantic deal mean the Magpies won’t pounce for Alfredo Morelos?

Granted, reports linking the Toon Army to the Rangers talisman have dried up over the last month.
That said, Newcastle based outlet The Chronicle claimed in June that Morelos was part of a Newcastle United shortlist to bolster their forward line.
But having splashed so much on burly striker Joelinton, it looks increasingly unlikely they’d fork out the £20m Rangers want for the player.
It’s encouraging news for Rangers fans who will be desperate for Alfredo Morelos to turn out at Ibrox next season.
The same can be said of West Ham’s pursuit of Sebastien Haller. The Hammers splashed out a reported £45m on the French forward last week, despite being closely linked to Morelos.
That said, the money involved in the Haller move could well fund any Eintracht Frankfurt interest in the Colombian [Daily Record].

You have to feel that by the notoriously stingy Mike Ashley forking out £40m on a striker, he’s unlikely to dig deep into his pockets for another.

But could the Toon yet disrupt Rangers with a move for James Tavernier? If their reported interest is serious, then they can expect to stump up.
