A report from down south has claimed that Newcastle United are interested in Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos – but would prefer Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard.

The Daily Star is claiming that the Magpies are looking north in their quest for a striker with £40m Brazilian forward Joelinton struggling to make the grade at St. James’ Park.

With one eye on the new campaign, the report suggests the Toon army might cast their net towards Scotland in the hunt for a proven goalscorer.

Edouard has reportedly been placed atop the Premier League side’s transfer wish list with Celtic believed to value their talismanic forward at up to £30m.

Rangers striker Morelos was also sounded out for a potential move to Newcastle United by a feature in local newspaper the Newcastle Chronicle.

But any suggestion that the Northeast side could have the pick of the two players could be short-lived when you consider the man running operations at St. James’ Park.

Mike Ashley remains locked in a retail feud with Rangers and it is difficult to see the Ibrox club entering into business negotiations with the High Street billionaire.

Rangers star Alfredo Morelos has also been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid [Diario AS] in the summer with Diego Simeone’s side eager to add goals.
