New Rangers signing Bongani Zungu has explained his absence from the South African national team for their matches with Namibia and Zambia.
When asked why he was not involved in the matches Zungu explained that he misses out because he had to “complete the move to Rangers”.
The box-to-box midfielder is considered amongst the Bafana Bafana’s most talented players but was excluded from their national side for this match.
The South African fans might’ve been just as excited as the Rangers support over Zungu’s move to Ibrox, but they’ll be without the player for the matches in South Africa.
Midfielder Zungu also took to Twitter to celebrate his inclusion in Rangers’ Europa League squad as they look to mount an assault on the competition for a third year on the bounce.
Zungu, 27, was included in the club’s Europa League squad but the likes of Jermain Defoe, George Edmundson and Jordan Jones have all missed out.
Rangers were first linked with a move for Bongani Zungu in early July but amid claims a £3.8m bid had been accepted [Scotsman], a deal would then stall.
There have been conflicting reports about the reasons for this but whatever the case the Gers moved quickly on deadline day to secure the loan-to-buy signing of the midfielder.
The player himself is just as excited as the Rangers fans as he prepares to arrive in Glasgow and expressed his delight about the move upon signings.
“I have studied the squad and feel I can come in and bring my attributes to help the team improve,” said Zungu [Rangers].

“The chance to play for such a big club especially in European competitions is very exciting for me.
“I can’t wait to fly to Scotland and meet my new teammates. I know that I will settle in Glasgow and am looking forward to getting started as soon as possible.”
