New Rangers signing Kevin Ciubotaru has stated that he turned down major Premier League interest from teams such as Tottenham and Chelsea, before choosing to sign for the Ibrox side.
The youth starlet has joined up with the Rangers academy and the 18-year-old looks set to have a bright future ahead of him.
A Tweet from Rangers Academy insider RFC Youths explained that the youngster had been with the club for two months, but they couldn’t sign him officially until he turned 18 on February 2.
With the defender having had trials at Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal, and Watford last year [TelekomSport] it proves the Rangers’ attraction still holds sway, although Brexit work permit issues may have been part of the deal.
Kevin Ciubotaru could target the Rangers left-back spot in the future
The left-back spot has been one of interest for Rangers this season, with Borna Barisic having underperformed and Calvin Bassey showing potential but is still raw, there could be an opening in the near future.
There are some other talents in the academy who can operate in the position which may provide tough competition for the Romanian.
Johnly Yfeko signed for the club on a free transfer and is looking to follow in Bassey’s footsteps by playing at Leicester before starring for Rangers.
With Barisic approaching 30 and surely at his peak, can Giovanni van Bronckhorst turn down a decent bid if one comes in during the summer transfer window? Especially considering how he has dipped significantly this season compared to last.

Whatever happens, there are a couple of gems in the academy who could be ready for the step up.
