Rangers are reportedly looking to sign free agent Johnly Yfeko, who was recently at Leicester City for the B team as academy star James Maxwell looks increasingly likely to be leaving Ibrox, with Premier League side Leeds showing interest.
The news was shared by the 4th official and the youngster was spotted at Auchenhowie as a move looks set to go ahead in the coming days.
The 18-year-old could follow in the steps of current Ibrox star Calvin Bassey, who was initially at the former Premier League champions before making the move to Rangers in the summer of 2020. Bassey has been excellent deputising at centreback this season so far and Yfeko could use this as inspiration.
Rangers signing Johnly Yfeko could mean James Maxwell may well be departing
Maxwell has excelled out on loan at Ayr United this season, and these performances have attracted interest from other clubs.
The 20-year-old even stated that he has “ accepted the fact” he will need to leave Rangers in order to get regular first-team football [DailyRecord].
This could mean Yfeko could be slotted straight into the B team as a replacement for Maxwell.
Following on from the signing of Manchester United player Amad Diallo, and reading about potential new signings, especially youngsters, shows that the manager is looking ahead to the future.
There are excellent talents in the B side, look at Alex Lowry, for example, staring in his debut against Stirling Albion before being impressive in the vital league match against Livingston.
The academy is a bedrock of talented individuals, and hopefully, the deal to bring Yfeko can be completed soon.
