As Philippe Clement emerges as the favourite to take the manager’s job at Rangers, it might well prove a boost to Cyriel Dessers’ Ibrox career.
The Belgian manager dominated the country’s Pro League for three seasons and whilst the two never worked together in the country there is a clearly positive link there.
Whilst we’re in no way suggesting that Rangers would’ve put the stuttering form of Cyriel Dessers at the forefront of their thinking in the managerial hunt, Philippe Clement’s credentials for the job are boosted by his links to the current squad.
Whoever comes into the club is going to have to work with this squad until at least January and heading into next year with plenty still to play for this season.

Rangers’ squad does have Belgian influence with both Cyriel Dessers and Nicolas Raskin nationals of the country and the ex-Club Brugge boss will be well aware of both players.
Attacking duo Kemar Roofe (Anderlecht) and Rabbi Matondo (Cercle Brugge) have also played in Belgium, with the situation around ex-Genk attacker Ianis Hagi continuing to perplex fans.
But if Philippe Clement is to come into Rangers, perhaps one of the biggest challenges the Belgian coach will face is getting the most from Cyriel Dessers whose start at Ibrox has been nothing short of disastrous.
The reported £4.5m summer signing from Cremonese has been on the receiving end of demoralising criticism from the stands at Rangers and his stock is at an alarming low.
Rangers supporters can be unforgiving and impatient with new signings but the level of commitment and quality from Cyriel Dessers has been so low as things stand plenty are already giving up on the hitman.
At the risk of being labelled one of the biggest flops in Rangers’ history, Philippe Clement represents a solid fresh start for Cyriel Dessers who is already in the last chance saloon at Ibrox.
