As Rangers prepare to appoint a new manager the rumour mill has gone into overdrive with Barry Ferguson the latest name to be thrown into the mix at Ibrox.
Steven Gerrard has jumped ship to Aston Villa and the Premier League with Giovanni van Bronckhorst the clear frontrunner to replace him.

But whilst the former Ibrox midfielder and Dutch footballing legend remains the favourite, Rangers are determined to take their time to make sure they secure the right man.
Changing managers is a costly business and if the club don’t get it right not only will it see success slip through their fingers this season but a sizeable rebuilding job when all is said and done.
Between tracking flights, second-guessing the club and dodgy newspaper reports no-one is sure what to believe but club insiders are on hand to quash the latest rumour coming out of Ibrox.
Barry Ferguson is not set to return to Rangers as new assistant manager
Fans have been sharing the suggestion that former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson is set to join the ranks of the Ibrox side in a coaching capacity or as GvB’s assistant.
According to Heart & Hand – who claim to have got this information straight from the horse’s mouth – this is “categorically untrue”.
Ferguson – who is currently in charge of League One Alloa Athletic – might be an Ibrox legend but he is certainly a polarising coach and fans were infighting over any potential deal.
It’s an easy link to make to given Barry and Gio were teammates at the turn of the millennium.
But it’s clear that all the talk was merely to fill the vacuum as fans eagerly await an announcement over who will be the new Rangers manager.

It certainly looks like we’re heading into the final furlong of the hunt and with some tough games on the horizon we should be expecting an announcement before long.
On the subject of that plane – fans will be interested to note that the favourite to become the new Ibrox manager wasn’t actually on the flight.
