Nedim Bajrami is set to leave Rangers this summer, as the attacker appears to face the axe in Danny Rohl’s squad overhaul.
The Albania international arrived at Ibrox with considerable fanfare, but his time in Glasgow has been defined by inconsistency, with moments of genuine quality interspersed with performances that left supporters scratching their heads.
Bajrami’s departure looks increasingly inevitable, with Go Radio Football Show host Paul Cooney confirming that he appears set to move on as Rangers oversee their summer clear-out ahead of a crucial rebuild.
He will be far from the only one heading for the exit door, as the Gers are expected to undergo a significant squad overhaul in a bid to assemble a squad capable of mounting a genuine title challenge next season.
Who must Rangers sell as part of the squad overhaul this summer?
Cavenagh and Rohl have major decisions to make.
Bajrami mentioned in shock Ronaldo Nazario claim
Former Rangers striker Kevin Kyle did not hold back in his assessment of Bajrami’s Ibrox career, producing one of the strangest analogies heard on Scottish football radio in recent memory.
Kyle acknowledged the 27-year-old’s flashes of genuine brilliance, going as far as comparing him to Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazario at his best, before immediately juxtaposing that with the polar opposite end of the performance spectrum.
The verdict was ultimately a sympathetic one, as Kyle stopped short of writing Bajrami off entirely, suggesting that the Albanian would find his feet elsewhere and get his career back on track, but was unequivocal that the Rangers move had not worked and that his departure is the right outcome for all parties.
He also placed Bajrami’s exit in the wider context of what promises to be a busy summer of outgoings at Ibrox, acknowledging that several players would be following him through the door as Rangers simultaneously work on reinforcing their squad.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, he said: “There were times when Bajrami looked like R9, and there were times he just looked like he’d never played football in his days.
“But listen, some signings work, some signings don’t. Bajrami hasn’t worked for Rangers, and he’ll go away, he’ll find a club, and he’ll get his career going again.
“It’s just another one out the door for Rangers, which will be a few. There’ll be a few going out that door because they’re going to need a few to come in to try and compete with what’s ahead this season.
“So, good luck to Bajrami. Like I said, it just didn’t work for him.”
Andrew Cavenagh seems to be working overtime!
This is great news for Rangers… 💪
What Bajrami’s exit means for Rangers
Bajrami’s departure would free up wages that can be reinvested into the kind of profile Andrew Cavenagh has been targeting this summer – proven, hungry, and capable of delivering consistently rather than sporadically like the former Sassuolo man.
The Kevin Thelwell and the pre-49ers era produced too many players in Bajrami’s mould – undeniable ability, questionable application, and moving them on is as important as bringing the right players in.
Rangers cannot afford another R9 one week, invisible the next, as the rebuild demands reliability above all else.
