Michael Beale has been discussing Shamal George of Livingston in the same week as the Tony Macaroni goalkeeper is linked to Ibrox.

The Gers boss has been clear that the club are looking to improve the goalkeeper position going into next season with Allan McGregor reportedly on the verge of retiring.

Combine this with the uncertainty surrounding Jon McLaughlin and Robby McCrorie and it’s led Beale to claim three or four options are in the Ibrox side’s sights.

Whilst the likes of Angus Gunn have been the repeatedly mentioned, ex-Liverpool goalkeeper Shamal George was another name mentioned by Football Insider this week.

That report claims that the 25-year-old stopper has been watched multiple times by Rangers after impressing under Davie Martindale since joining the Lions from Colchester in the summer.

Rangers boss Michael Beale mentions Shamal George

Michael Beale would mention his knowledge of Shamal George during his time with the Liverpool youth team, as he discussed several members of the Livingston first team with whom he has experience.

These include Shamal George, Morgan Boyes, Stephen Kelly and Joel Nouble, all of whom Michael Beale has worked with in the past.

“It’s a squad funny enough, going away and coming back to Scotland, the backbone of this squad, I’ve worked with a lot,” said Michael Beale ahead of the visit to Livingston [Rangers].

“The goalkeeper, Shamal (George) I worked with at Liverpool, Morgan Boyes was a young player at centre-half coming through the academy also.

“Stephen Kelly was a boy I had a lot of affection and thoughts towards his future while he was here. I think he’s been a good player for Livingston this year.

“And Joel Nouble was my striker at Chelsea many, many years ago at Chelsea under 9s, 10s, 12s and 13s. So, I know Joel and his family very well. There are some familiar faces there.”

Whilst Michael Beale didn’t directly mention those links to Shamal George, it’s interesting the Rangers manager has worked with the player before as the club look intently at the goalkeeper position.

Meanwhile, Tom Lawrence has suffered a “minor setback” in his injury recovery.
