Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor is “almost certain” to leave the club this summer, according to the latest reports.

The Daily Record are claiming that the veteran 41-year-old goalkeeper’s future is all but settled as his contract ticks down at Ibrox and a furious debate rages over the goalkeeping position.

Rangers fans believe the club has failed them in this position, particularly this season, with Allan McGregor well past his best and back-up stopper Jon McLaughlin involved in high profile mistakes.

It’s a position which has been the subject of much conversation in recent weeks and that intensified after comments made by Michael Beale about looking for a new option.

Couple this with Allan McGregor being out of contract and it is not hard to connect the dots, even if Michael Beale has left the door open for the stopper.

“My relationship with Allan is superb,” said Michael Beale.

“We’re the same age so we can share our life experiences together!

“Seriously, it’s great, as it was when I was here before.

“There’s a lot been said and written about Allan, but he’s the No 1 here, I’ve made that clear.

“As with any player, though, I have to look at changing it to get more out of someone later on.

“I haven’t discussed what will happen yet with Allan. I don’t feel there’s a rush to do that.

“There are players out of contract here, and a lot of things are up in the air.

“Last year was similar — the club left it to Allan to decide how his body felt.

“That will be the right thing again at the end of this season.”

The Rangers goalkeeper has been an outstanding servant to the Ibrox side and he has won an array of honours with the club over two spells.

These include four Scottish top flight titles, four Scottish Cups and five League Cups, with Allan McGregor bowing out a legend if he does decide his time at Rangers is up this summer.

Meanwhile, Angus Gunn has been touted as the man to replace Allan McGregor at Rangers.
