Rangers have been linked with a January move for Fenerbahce centre half Martin Skrtel, but something feels off about the transfer. Not least how much it would cost.
According to a report by Turkish outlet Fanatik, Rangers are keen to make a move for Skrtel this month.
Rangers were of course heavily linked with the defender at the start of the season. We were reportedly priced out of a move, according to Skrtel’s agent.

There were then further reports from Turkey of Rangers chasing Skrtel’s signature in November.
Whilst he may be an interesting proposition on a pre-contract, a permanent transfer this month seems too costly and risky to ever come to fruition.
Martin Skrtel is 34 and on mega-high wages. Rangers also have four settled defenders.
But if Joe Worrall is recalled this month by Martin O’Neill, Rangers will need a centre back. Could it be Skrtel?

I doubt it. He’s not cost effective and almost all of the reports surrounding the centre back come from Turkey. Any transfer fee would be a £1m+ and that’s before we speak about wages.
Could he come at the end of the season? Maybe. If he is willing to take a major drop in wages.
But any January move comes across as risky and costly.
And reckless risk taking isn’t something you’ve associated with Gerrard’s tenure at Ibrox so far.
