Rangers chairman Dave King described Rangers as Scotland’s “premier club” in a stirring statement this week.
The South African businessman was responding to record season ticket sales as supporters once again smashed last year’s record.
And whilst some of Scottish football’s more unsavoury characters might disagree with King’s remarks about Rangers’ stature, this map gives the impression that the Rangers Chairman is bang on the money.

The map was unveiled by Reddit user RedSnowCastle on the /r/MapPorn subreddit. You can view it HERE.
Whilst this is not an exact science, the map is based on Google trends from 2004 to the present day. Well, eleven months ago when the map was posted.
It shows that throughout Scotland, Rangers are consistently the most searched for/popular team.
And for anyone suggesting the aftermath of 2012 has had a hand in this, you only need to consider that the results are based on trends all the way from the mid-2000s.
It shows that Rangers are the “premier club” in Scotland. At least in terms of interest online.
And whilst this map is not a definitive example of why Rangers are the biggest club in the country, you only need to look at the stats that matter.

It’s not even up for debate. Rangers are the most supported, largest and premier club in Scotland.
And that’s not going to change any time soon.
