Sheffield United manager has confirmed that reported summer Rangers target John Lundstram has rejected a contract offer at Bramall Lane.

The midfielder remains a key part of the Blades side but reports this week suggested the midfielder had rejected a contract offer with his current deal expiring at the end of the season [Sky Sports].

This means Lundstram, 26, will be able to leave Sheffield for free when his deal expires with the midfielder now likely to be moved on in January instead.

Wilder admitted that Sheffield United are now inviting offers for a “very good player” who scored five goals in 34 Premier League games last season.

“We have offered him a very good contract that is up there with the top players at the club. He doesn’t want to sign it,” said Wilder [BBC Sports].

“It is a very good offer but there are always two sides to every story and John and his agent feel that they maybe want to negotiate elsewhere, so that’s where it’s at.

“I am very frustrated about that. Cards on the table, I believe John should have signed it.

“He most likely wants to run his contract down, so we will invite offers for a very good player who did well for us in the Premier League last season.”

Rangers were first linked with a move for Lundstram in the summer after a report in the Athletic claimed that the Gers had been monitoring the player.

However, Rangers opted to secure a deadline-day move for midfielder Bongani Zungu on-loan from Amiens and are now well-stocked in midfield.

Lundstram is also likely to have a host of offers in the Premier League with the likes of West Ham and Brighton most recently mentioned alongside the ex-Everton youth player.

But if a reportedly in-demand Ibrox star is to move in January, could Lundstram become an adequate replacement for the Ibrox side?
