Rangers have officially missed out on former Everton midfielder Isaac Price as Standard Liege win the race following his departure from the Premier League outfit.

Romaine Mundle appears to be getting cold feet regarding a move to Belgium; the Tottenham Hotspur winger seemingly edging towards FC Utrecht instead. Fortunately for Standard Liege, Mundle’s doubts were not shared by young Isaac Price.

After weeks of radio silence, the Northern Ireland international was finally confirmed as a Standard player over the weekend.

Price turned down a new contract at Everton before signing a long-term deal until the summer of 2027 at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne, despite interest from both Rangers and Old Firm rivals Celtic (Liverpool Echo).

“He has chose Standard to pursue his career and reach a new level,” explains manager Geoffrey Valenne. “Isaac was seduced by our project. (He) is delighted to put his qualities at the service of the Rouches.”

Price’s Everton contract was due to expire at the end of this month. Due to the fact he spent over a decade at The Toffees, the Merseyside outfit should still make around £400,000 from his departure, with Standard forced to stump up a hefty compensation fee.

Interestingly, Standard are owned by American investment fund 777 Partners. They are expected to add Everton their stable sooner rather than later too; the Farhad Moshiri era coming to an end after years of reckless spending and dead-end decisions.

Rangers, meanwhile, have still enjoyed a highly-impressive start to the summer despite missing out on Price. Dujon Sterling, Jack Butland and Kieran Dowell have already been confirmed at Ibrox, joining from Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Norwich City respectively.

Sam Lammers, Cyriel Dessers and Jose Cifuentes could all be confirmed this week too.

Lammers and Dessers are likely to set Rangers back a combined £7 million. Cifuentes, meanwhile, arrives on the back of an outstanding 2022 MLS campaign at Los Angeles FC.
