Rangers might not have made any immediate deadline day transfers but there was one bit of good news around Lyall Cameron.
Cameron will be a Gers player come the summer after penning a pre-contract agreement to make the move when his contract expires at the end of the season.
It was news that was welcomed as the club look to try and increase the amount of homegrown Scottish talent they bring in.
Several former Rangers players are certainly delighted as Kris Boyd and Alan Hutton agreed Cameron was a smart signing and that it is good to see the club go down the Scottish route.
Barry Ferguson was thinking along the same lines and has “no doubt” Cameron has what it takes to make the step up.
The news hasn’t been met with universal delight though as Dundee fans haven’t taken it well and have stuck the knife in.
And Dee boss Tony Docherty has been forced to defend Cameron – explaining he is delighted for the playmaker to be getting his big move.

James McPake reveals Rangers text sent to Cameron
James McPake played with Cameron at Dundee before going on to become his boss when appointed as their manager.
Insisting he is one of the best talents he’s played alongside, the former centre-back has tipped him to keep getting better and better.
Earlier this season, after the 22-year-old had scored a double in a 4-1 win over Motherwell on his 100th appearance, McPake texted him to insist he would be at one half of the Old Firm or Birmingham City before he got to 150.
The text, as revealed to The Scotsman, read: “You won’t get to 150 mate – Celtic or Rangers in the summer, or Birmingham City.”
The reference to Birmingham is because McPake fielded a call from Callum Carsley, assistant technical director at the Blues and son of Lee Carsley.
McPake had played with the former England interim boss at Coventry City and was asked for information on Cameron.
Birmingham have shopped in the Scottish market, taking Kieran Dowell and Ben Davies on loan from Rangers and Scott Wright permanently, as well as Alex Cochrane from Hearts, Scotland international Lyndon Dykes and ex-Jambo Marc Leonard.
Rangers announced Cameron pre-contract on deadline day
“I am delighted that we have agreed a deal for Lyall to join the club and to continue his career at Rangers come the summer,” Nils Koppen told the Rangers website.
“He is a talented young player, who has already gained great experience in the Scottish Premiership, and adding young, Scottish talent to our first-team squad is hugely important to all of us at the club.
“Lyall has a lot of potential and I look forward to seeing him continue to grow at Rangers in the coming years.”
