Liverpool star Leighton Clarkson is being tipped for a move to Rangers after catching the eye during a successful season on loan at Aberdeen.

According to journalist Dean Jones of Give Me Sport, the 21-year-old midfielder is a “potential arrival” at Rangers this summer and someone that he can see turning out for Michael Beale.

It comes after Leighton Clarkson was linked to both Rangers and Celtic earlier in the year, the Liverpool midfielder going through an impressive spell of form at Pittodrie.

“I think he is a good fit for Michael Beale,” said Jones. “He already knows all about his game and what he can add to his squad.

“I think Clarkson has had an interesting time with things recently, and he has probably gotten a taste of what life could be like if he was to look for a move whereby he is going to be in a big team more regularly. I think he is one that could be a potential arrival.”

Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen are another who are believed to hold an interest in Liverpool star Leighton Clarkson, who scored six goals and laid on nine assists in 39 appearances for the Dons last season.

Rangers in for Leighton Clarkson?

Leighton Clarkson has made three appearances for the Liverpool top team and the former England youth international was once regarded as an Anfield bright spark.

The claims also come one week on from when reports in the Athletic claimed Liverpool will now “listen to offers” for the midfielder ahead of the new season.

It means the player is up for sale heading as the window opens and the transfer market begins to heat up, with Rangers perhaps having one eye on the player.

The Ibrox side have already confirmed the signings of Kieran Dowell, Dujon Sterling and Jack Butland heading into the new season, with several others expected to follow.

The signing of Dutch striker Sam Lammers is believed to be imminent, with Ecuadorean midfielder Jose Cifuentes and Nigerian forward Cyriel Dessers also strongly linked.
