Leverkusen have been handed yet another injury blow ahead of their trip to Ibrox as a third player was potentially ruled out of the Europa League last 16 tie against Rangers.

The Bundesliga outfit has already lost top-scorer Kevin Volland [Leverkusen] to an ankle injury for three months with captain Lars Bender also considered a doubt for the Rangers match.

Now 23-year-old Afghan/German midfielder Nadiem Amiri is set to join them after being forced off at half-time in Leverkusen’s 3-1 win over Union Berlin in the week.

The injury is likely to rule him out of next week’s trip to Ibrox and Rangers need all the help they can get as they look to overcome one of the tournament’s frontrunners.

Amiri is a regular in the Leverkusen side and his injury does represent a significant loss for the 5th placed Bundesliga side.

The midfielder has made 22 appearances for Leverkusen this season, including four in the Champions League [Transfermarkt].

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard earned the plaudits of the German side [Leverkusen] on social media after he named Leverkusen as one of the favourites for the competition.

The Germans overcame Rangers’ group rivals Porto 5-2 on aggregate to give the Gers a taste of what’s to come when they visit Glasgow next week.

Rangers earned the right to play Leverkusen in the last 16 by overcoming Portuguese outfit Braga 4-2 on aggregate in the last round.
