Leeds United could be targeting a double Rangers international swoop as Rabbi Matondo is reportedly spotted at Elland Road amid links to Glen Kamara.

Football Insider and Pete O’Rourke are reporting that 22-year-old Welsh international winger Rabbi Matondo was in attendance as Leeds United kicked off their Championship campaign v Cardiff City.

Having been named as an unused substitute in Rangers’ devastating 1-0 defeat away to Kilmarnock the day before, Matondo took in a 2-2 draw in Yorkshire as Leeds United return to the Championship.

According to the report, Matondo’s presence at Leeds United comes amid uncertainty over the futures of Elland Road wide pair Wilfried Gnonto and Crysensio Summerville.

FI believe that Rabbi Matondo could be the “ideal” replacement for either player and the link comes with the ex-Schalke 04 star out of the picture at Ibrox.

Rabbi Matondo signed for Leeds United

Signed for a reported £2.5m last season, it just hasn’t worked for Rabbi Matondo at Ibrox and even with Fashion Sakala now exiting the club, there are doubts regarding the winger’s ability to step up.

There are a few interesting subplots to the report as well given that Rabbi Matondo actually started his youth career with Leeds United’s opponents on the night Cardiff City.

The Elland Road side also have numerous young Welsh talents in the same age bracket as Matondo, with ex-Manchester United winger Dan James and centre-back Ethan Ampadu fellow Dragons’ teammates.

The likes also come amid much speculation surrounding Leeds United and potential interest in Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara which has rumbled for the length of the window.

According to reports, there are several players chasing Finnish international Kamara to the tune of £5.5m with Leeds United prominently named alongside the midfielder all summer long.

Whilst neither deals for Rabbi Matondo or Glen Kamara have come to fruition at Leeds United, it’ll be interesting to see where both Rangers internationals wind up next season.
