Kris Boyd slams Aberdeen in post-Celtic drubbing Rangers claim

Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has slammed an “embarrassing” Aberdeen following their humiliation at the hands of Old Firm rivals Celtic.

The Dons were obliterated 6-0 at the hands of the Parkhead side with Barry Robson’s team conceding three injury time goals at the end of the Scottish Premiership encounter.

The result comes after both Celtic and Aberdeen played in Europe in midweek and after Rangers had defeated Livingston 2-0 away from home earlier in the day.

Aberdeen have long been accused of downing tools against Celtic and once again Kris Boyd let rip as the tinpot Pittodrie club offered meek resistance in the face of a rampant Parkhead side.

What’s more, the former Rangers striker insists that Barry Robson’s men will have no issue getting motivated for their next game – a home clash against the Gers – with the Ibrox side notoriously Aberdeen’s Cup Final.

“On 92 minutes you’re 3-0 down, get back on that bus and get back up the road at 3-0,” Boyd told Sky Sports.

“You then in the end up lose another three goals inside seven minutes and it’s now six. It’s embarrassing.

“We speak about Aberdeen’s record off the back of European football. If you say you’re a big club, you have to perform in Europe. You have to find a way to do it.

“You can speak about the squad might not be of that level, but there were a few changes out there today, there weren’t a few changes against Kilmarnock and they were arguably as bad then as they were today.

“You can look at the fixtures. I’m sure Barry will have absolutely no problem in getting them up for the next game, that’s for sure because Rangers are in town. Fact. It’s true. For me, that’s a sad indictment of the players.”

Kris Boyd slaughters Celtic gimme Aberdeen

Ironically, the hapless Dons put more effort into the shambolic ticket fight ahead of the League Cup Final with Rangers than they did in the Premiership clash against Celtic.

A genuinely embarrassing outfit who have got a complex against Celtic, they made it easy for Brendan Rodgers’ side in Glasgow.

Coming off the back of a 5-0 humiliation against Atletico Madrid in Spain, Aberdeen had held PAOK 2-2 in Greece.

Rangers will now enjoy a bit of downtime after a hectic start to Philippe Clement’s reign but every bluenose, Kris Boyd included, is under no illusions that the trip to Aberdeen will be a tough game.

That’s because Aberdeen will put in more fight in the first five minutes of their clash v Rangers than what they will in a season’s worth of matches against Celtic.

Kris Boyd might also be fuming with Aberdeen now, but only last week was he tipping one of their players to join Rangers.
