Kris Boyd shocked by what he saw from Rangers manager Danny Rohl – ‘Dangerous’

Kris Boyd has admitted that he was shocked by the changes Danny Rohl made to the Rangers’ starting eleven.

The Gers played well in their previous league game against Aberdeen, winning 4-1, but Rohl decided to change things up in the 4-2 win against Dundee United.

It did not impact the outcome as the Gers still managed to pick up the three points to go top of the Scottish Premiership table for a day.

Kris Boyd believes Danny Rohl is playing a dangerous game

Boyd was a bit surprised when he saw three of the back four being changed for the Dundee United clash.

After seeing the Gers dominate Aberdeen, the former striker expected more of the same in terms of team selection.

He was surprised that James Tavernier was dropped to the bench despite playing well in that game and also being rested during the international break.

Instead, Rohl opted to start Dujon Sterling at right-back.

Emmanuel Fernandez was also dropped to the bench, but that could be due to the fact that he played in the international break and could have been fatigued.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, Boyd said: “When you look at Rangers’ performance against Aberdeen, it was three in the back four that was changed.

“Tavernier had done well in that game. Sterling came back in there. No complaints for that. I think Sterling did reasonably well.

“But to mix up the centre-back pairing, obviously with Rommens being injured, Meghoma comes in.

“Two of them were decisions that were made from Danny Rohl. You’re playing a dangerous game, that’s all I’m saying.

“Because in this run in, you want everybody to be singing from the same hymn sheet.”

Is Rohl jeopardising Rangers’ chances of winning the title?

Rangers now control the fate of the title race and if they win all their games, they will be champions.

Thus, the pressure on Rohl increases with each game and his decisions will be analysed with a microscope.

While Boyd does make a valid point, the Gers boss selects his team on a case-by-case basis.

He felt that having Sterling would add to the defensive solidity on the right, which he felt was needed against Dundee United.

Against Falkirk, he might decide to start Tavernier again and one would understand why as the captain offers much more going forward.

Rohl works with the team day in and day out and he knows what the players’ strengths and weaknesses are far more than anyone on the outside.
