Philippe Clement has been quick to point to budgetary differences when Rangers compete in the Europa League.
But the under-fire Ibrox manager has been rather quiet on the reverse when it comes to Rangers facing off against teams in Scotland.
Only one club in the country can out-fight Rangers in terms of finances and yet the club is failing time and again to get results in the Scottish Premiership.
In the Scottish Cup, a disastrous exit against Queen’s Park has heaped the scrutiny on the Rangers team.
But just how much of a financial difference is there between Rangers’ and their southside rivals?
Kieran Maguire lays bare Rangers finances v Queen’s Park
Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has been breaking down the financial differences between Rangers and Queen’s Park on social media.
In a remarkable set of statistics, Maguire lays bare the financial disparity between both clubs as Rangers count the cost of the weekend’s Scottish Cup exit.
The 1-0 defeat to Queen’s Park has all but ended Rangers’ domestic season with the Scottish Premiership out of sight and Celtic marching towards a sixth treble in nine seasons.
As explained by Maguire, Rangers’ annual revenue dwarfs that of Queen’s Park.
Rangers also spend over twenty times as much on wages as the Championship side, whilst the cost of the Rangers’ squad dwarfs that of Queen’s Park by an astonishing £49m.
| Rangers | Queen’s Park | Difference | |
| Revenue (£) | 88.31 | 3.86 | 84.45 |
| Wages (£) | 61.19 | 2.75 | 58.44 |
| Transfer fees 2024 (£) | 21.06 | 0.00 | 21.06 |
| Squad cost (£) | 48.99 | 0.00 | 48.99 |
Kris Boyd on Rangers financial ‘excuses’ in Europe
Kris Boyd took aim at Philippe Clement for quoting statistics in the wake of Rangers’ Scottish Cup defeat against Queen’s Park.
The former Ibrox striker claims that Clement is quick to point out the financial disparity with clubs in the Europa League.
But Boyd reckons Clement is quiet on the same comparative differences when it comes to his own team’s shortcomings in Scotland.
”Ultimately Philippe Clement speaks about budgets when he’s coming up against opposition that are far superior to Rangers in Europe and obviously against Celtic,” Boyd told Sky Sports.

”But then if you flip it the other way, he doesn’t speak about it when they’re losing games yesterday, it’s about the chances they created.
”It’s irrelevant. Nobody cares how many chances you’ve created, how many shots you’ve had at goal. All that matters is the end result.
”I think a lot of the Rangers fans are fed up of Philippe Clement’s excuses.”
