Motherwell turned down a late bid from China for striker Kevin van Veen as his goalscoring exploits sees a former manager tip him for Rangers.
The Dutch striker, 31, has been on explosive form for the Steelmen this season and earned the Fir Park side a point at Celtic Park with his 24th goal of the season at the weekend.
But Kevin van Veen might’ve been out in the orient instead of keeping Motherwell’s Premiership status alive had mid-season interest from China been realised.
According to the Daily Record, Motherwell turned down a “six-figure” bid for their Flying Dutchman from Chinese outfit Changchun Yatai earlier in the month but it was quickly booted out of Lanarkshire.
It is said that Motherwell are determined to keep hold of the former Northampton Town and Scunthorpe striker, who is in his second season in the Scottish top flight.
Kevin van Veen tipped for Rangers
Rangers fans will have one eye on what happens to Kevin van Veen after comments made by ex-Motherwell manager Graeme Alexander.
The former Burnley full-back and Scotland international claims that the potent Dutch attacker has what it takes to play for either side of the Old Firm.
“I just assumed that, having seen first-hand what he’s capable of doing, the biggest clubs in Scotland would be interested in signing him last summer,” said Alexander.
“My belief is that he could do a job for Celtic or Rangers.
“Kevin is a throwback. I’ve always bristled when I hear players described as mavericks, because football is a team game, but that’s exactly what big Kev is.
“He does his own thing, and what he does, very few other players can do.
“The other players know they have a chance if they can just get the ball to him.”
Rangers are currently assessing their options in the final third with a lack of cutting edge contributing to a woeful season at Ibrox and the futures of Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent up in the air.
