Former Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson has secured his UEFA Pro License – but he won’t be taking over as Ross County manager.

The ex-Ibrox star, 39, is currently on the hunt for a new manager’s job and will have done his prospects no harm after graduating from the course.

Taking to X to reveal that he’s now completed his coaching badges, the news comes as former Kelty Hearts boss Kevin Thomson looks to secure a top gig.

“Delighted to finally pass my Pro License,” said Kevin Thomson. “Long old slog but worth it.

“Massive thanks to everyone who helped me along the way.”

Thommo won’t be Ross County boss

Kevin Thomson retweeted an online pitch for his services by X user John Walker last week.

Praising Thommo’s managerial style and making clear the coach’s availability, the post urged a club to take a chance on the young manager who has been out of the management game since 2022.

The entire thing also came around the same time as Ross County sacked manager Malky Mackay with Kevin Thomson a legitimate option to replace the coach.

But despite Thomson’s availability, Ross County look set to plunge for a more familiar face in the dugout in Dingwall.

BBC Sport are now reporting that the Staggies look set to appoint Morecambe manager Derek Adams for a remarkable third stint in charge at Ross County, nine years on from when he last left the club.

Kevin Thomson gets UEFA Pro License

It means that whilst we tipped Kevin Thomson for the job at Ross County, it looks like the young coach’s managerial hunt continues.

A popular figure amongst the Rangers support, Kevin Thomson started his coaching career in the youth academy at Ibrox and has progressed very well since then.

Having also expressed his desire to one day take the reins at Ibrox, Kevin Thomson will need quite a bit more managerial experience before that happens.

Whilst the Scottish Premiership does seem a little bit of a stretch for the young manager at the moment, perhaps a stint in the Scottish Championship can get other clubs noticing.

We certainly believe Kevin Thomson has what it takes to make the grade in top level management and Rangers fans will congratulate their ex-player on securing the UEFA Pro License.
