Former Rangers and Scotland midfielder Kevin Thomson has made himself available for a manager’s gig after being praised on social media.

The 39-year-old has been out of work as a manager ever since leaving Kelty Hearts in May 2022 despite earning them promotion to Scottish League One.

Since then the former Rangers academy coach – who has ambitions to be the Rangers manager one day – has found managerial opportunities few and far between.

After one poster praised Kevin Thomson on social media, the Rangers star retweeted commentary about clubs refusing to take a risk on himself.

John Walker drew up an impressive thread on X, formerly known as Twitter, claiming Kevin Thomson was “available” for a manager’s job as he prepares to qualify for his UEFA Pro Licence this weekend asking “what is a club waiting for?”

This was then retweeted by Kevin Thomson who said the thread was “much appreciated”.

Kevin Thomson available for manager gig

It’s clear the former Ibrox hero, who was capped three times by Scotland, is eager for a return to management and let’s see if any side wants to take the plunge on the likeable coach.

More often heard on RangersTV commentary duties as of late, the young Scottish manager hasn’t been able to snare a top Premiership job since leaving Kelty Hearts.

The likes of Hibs – Thommo’s first club – looked to the A-League to appoint Nick Montgomery whilst St Johnstone went old school with the appointment of Craig Levein.

Chances are few and far between for young Scottish managers with Kevin Thomson’s former Rangers teammate Steven Naismith currently bucking the trend whilst managing without a UEFA Pro licence.

Perhaps an opportunity at the top level of Scottish football will be hard to secure for Kevin Thomson at present who might have take a manager’s gig a little lower down the pyramid.

Whatever the case, it appears the former Rangers star is open to discussions and we reckon it’s only a matter of time before Thomson gets a chance elsewhere.
