Kevin Thomson reckons a potential injury to Rangers utility man Dujon Sterling will be a big “worry” for Ibrox manager Philippe Clement.
The former Rangers and Hibs midfielder was talking after both Ross McCausland and Dujon Sterling went off injured for the Ibrox side at Easter Road.
Whilst Rangers would run out 2-0 winners in the tie to send Hibs packing, the match was overshadowed by the injuries to both players.
Kevin Thomson on Dujon Sterling injury “worry”
Kevin Thomson had taken the opportunity to wish Hibs attacker Martin Boyle, who wound up in hospital following a head knock, all the best in his recovery.
But the ex-Rangers star was also talking about the situation at Ibrox and reckons that any injury to Dujon Sterling would be a devastating blow to Philippe Clement.
“From a Rangers perspective I think (Dujon) Sterling is a unique one,” Kevin Thomson told the BBC’s Scottish Football Podcast.
“Because, without doing Rossco (McCausland) a disservice, he’s probably the one that if you think of like the engine room when it comes to being versatile, he can cover at left-back, he can cover at right-back.
“Obviously Tav’s a machine but when you look at John Lundstram, who plays almost every minute of every game, Tom Lawrence is obviously playing in there, so I think Sterling will be a worry for the manager.
“He brings a lot of versatility and a lot of cover into a lot of positions so let’s hope for both of them it’s not long-term.”
Rangers utility man has stood up for Philippe Clement
Dujon Sterling has emerged as a key player for Rangers in recent months playing across multiple positions for the Ibrox side.
Naturally a right-back, Sterling has deputised at left-back earlier in the season and in midfield towards the turn of the year.
In recent weeks, amid a run of injuries on the flanks Dujon Sterling has started on the right wing, where he scored against Benfica and won a penalty v Hibs.

Rangers fans will wait to find out about any injury to the player but Kevin Thomson is bang on in his assessment that the Dujon Sterling situation will be a “worry” for Philippe Clement.
The utility man very much embodies the essence of Clement’s squad message and Dujon will be central to any success we have this season.
