Josh Windass starred in a 2-0 win for new club Sheffield Wednesday on the opening Saturday of the 2020/21 Championship season after Rangers reportedly landed a six-figure fee from his transfer.

The full amount never landed from the Latics, though, who are currently in administration, and according to Alan Nixon of the Sun, the remaining six-figure sum was paid to Rangers by Sheffield Wednesday when Windass moved to Hillsborough earlier this month.

The £450,000 reported windfall from the transfer is the biggest amount Rangers have received for any player in this transfer window.

Owls boss Garry Monk will feel he’s already getting his money’s worth, though, following the forward’s first two appearances for his new club.

Windass scored a penalty in last weekend’s shootout victory over Walsall in the EFL Cup, before starring in his side’s opening Championship fixture on Saturday afternoon.

The Englishman opened the scoring in just the fourth minute, firing a confident finish into the bottom left corner after being played through by Izzy Brown.

He also played a big part in his side’s second goal, with his flick-on header in the 44th minute finding it’s way to Jordan Rhodes, who tapped home from close range.

The former Ger, who divided opinion during his time at Ibrox, is still building up to full fitness and was substituted in the 70th minute for Elias Kachunga, but his contributions proved enough for three points.

Former Rangers loanee, Sheyi Ojo, made his debut for Cardiff in the same game.

The 23-year-old winger started on the right-wing but didn’t manage to get on the scoresheet and was substituted shortly after the hour mark.
