Rangers youngster Josh McPake picked up the club’s Academy Player of the Year at the recent Rangers Player of the Year Awards in Glasgow.
The young attacking midfielder said it “meant a lot” to be selected for the award and justified all of his hard work this season. The youngster has climbed from the u18s into the reserves and this award shows he’s within touching distance of the top team.
But just how far is this exciting young talent from making the grade at Ibrox?
Well, as you hear in the video, the youngster has trained with the first team already this season. More than that, the youngster has sought to take plenty from the experience.
In a Twitter Q&A with the Rangers Youth Development Company McPake said his idol was Lionel Messi. He also said for a point in reference in the current squad that he plays most like Ryan Kent.
A tricky young winger who’s also full of pace
He claims his best position is in the number 10 role just behind the striker. McPake relishes the opportunity to “always be involved in attacks”. He describes his playing style as “direct, tricky and full of pace”.
The youngster also said it is his dream to play for the Rangers first team. Going by his background, he’s the kind of player that will get the Ibrox legions up off their seats.
Still only 17, his progression from U18s football, to reserve and then to first-team training is a testament to the progress of the Academy Player of the Year.

McPake is also challenging on four trophy fronts this year. The winger is involved in the title race for both the U18s and the Reserves, whilst he’s also vying for Scottish FA Youth Cup and Glasgow Cup glory.
Let’s hope there’s plenty more to come from the young Scottish attacker. See a full run-through of the Rangers Player of the Year Award winners HERE.
