Jose Cifuentes in “hacked” claim as Rangers fans get update from Ecuador

Rangers-linked midfielder Jose Cifuentes has claimed via Twitter that his social media accounts have been “hacked” amid an update on the deal in Ecuador.

The 24-year-old Ecuadorean international took to Twitter to claim that he’d be taking a step back from the platform, as well as his official Instagram account, whilst the issue is resolved.

This comes after the accounts had heavily interacted with supporters amid those Jose Cifuentes links to Rangers, with the midfielder seemingly liking the suggestion he could move to Glasgow on Twitter and Instagram.

However, it appears that this was not Jose Cifuentes and the message on Twitter made the pretty serious privacy claim that his account has been “hacked”.

Addressing his 11.6k followers on Twitter, Jose Cifuentes said:

“To all my followers. I want to inform you that apparently my account has been hacked some time ago and there are people who are using my image.

“For this reason, I will be inactive on my social networks (Twitter and Instagram) until the problem is solved. Thanks.”

The “hacked” claims come as Rangers links to Jose Cifuentes continue to intensify in the press, with the LAFC midfielder currently on Ecuador international duties.

Rangers have already been very busy in the transfer market and the Ecuadorean international is expected to form one part of a £6.5m double switch in the coming weeks.

There has also been an update from the press in Ecuador regarding Rangers’ interest in Jose Cifuentes, as one journalist takes to Twitter to back up claims regarding a potential transfer fee.

Rangers will have to pay to bring Cifuentes to Glasgow this summer as the player prepares to enter the final six months of his contract with the MLS side.

Now, local journalist Mateo Artieda – who works for Ecuadorean outlet Diario Expreso – has claimed that Rangers would be willing to pay up to £1.5m to sign the player.

This backs up claim from leading Rangers insider Four Lads Had a Dream, who last week claimed that the deal could reach £1.5m as the Ibrox club continue to negotiate with LAFC.
