Leeds United have been linked to Japanese international midfielder Ao Tanaka with a move for Rangers’ Glen Kamara perhaps not quite as cut and dry as suggested.

The Athletic have just released a comprehensive update of the Championship side’s ambitious £20m+ transfer plans heading into the final week of the window.

Whilst the likes of Fabrizio Romano have suggested that a Leeds move for Glen Kamara is “expected to be completed” this week, Phil Hay hasn’t been quite so confident.

The Athletic journalist is regarded as THE source on all things Elland Road and the latest update on Leeds United will have Gers fans scratching their heads.

Leeds United “monitoring” Rangers star Glen Kamara

Claiming that Leeds are set to launch a bid for at least five players this week, with the number 10 role, central midfield, and right-back priorities but the club also targeting a winger and a left-back, Glen Kamara has been mentioned.

It’s said that Bayer Leverkusen star Nadiem Amiri remains a £5m Leeds United target, whilst Genk winger Joseph Paintsil is still a £10m target.

At right-back, the club is said to be targeting a loan move for Tottenham’s Djed Spence whilst Burnley’s Charlie Taylor and Leicester City’s Luke Thomas are left-back options.

But Rangers fans will be more intrigued by the situation surrounding the club’s pursuit of central midfielder with Glen Kamara named as a potential target.

Phil Hay claims that Leeds United boss Daniel Farke is looking for someone to come in and support the club’s first choice midfield pairing of Archie Gray and Ethan Ampadu.

But whilst others have claimed that is set to be Glen Kamara, the journalist claims that Leeds United have been “monitoring” the Rangers star with the club having “the necessary funds” to complete a deal.

According to the latest reports, that will be around £5m and should a move for all the reported targets go through the Championship club could splurge £20m on their squad this week.

Championship side also linked to Ao Tanaka

Those reports of a bid for Rangers star Glen Kamara have been tempered by confirmation that Leeds United may move for Japanese midfielder Ao Tanaka.

The Athletic report confirms that links to the Fortuna Düsseldorf midfielder are “accurate” although it is not clear if this would disrupt the links to Kamara.

There is also a mention of Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien but the funds attached to a deal are said to make a move a non-starter.

The report will raise doubts in the Rangers support regarding Glen Kamara’s move to Leeds United but there is nothing definitive to suggest a move is off.

Rangers signed Glen Kamara for a reported £50k back in January 2019 and the midfielder has gone on to play 193 times for the club.

If a deal does go through, then the Rangers midfielder would be joining a reported Ibrox target in signing for the Whites.
