Tom Miller had a conversation with James Tavernier after Rangers suffered defeat against Celtic in the Scottish Cup.

With the quarter-final ending 0-0 after 120 minutes, penalties had to separate the two Old Firm sides, with Tavernier stepping up to take a spot kick.

However, the Gers captain missed from 12 yards, much to the surprise of most of the people in attendance at Ibrox.

Tom Miller claims James Tavernier was visibly upset after the loss

Miller, who is an employee of the club, has been a long-serving commentator for Rangers TV, shared that Tavernier looked troubled and broken at the end of the game.

In his words, the right-back was broken after his missed penalty and also the deflating result against their arch rivals.

As Tavernier’s contract is running out at the end of the season, this could potentially have been his last chance of winning a trophy for the club.

Thus far, no decision has been made about whether or not he will stay at Ibrox beyond the end of his deal.

The 34-year-old could still win the Scottish Premiership title, but the Gers are still six points behind league leaders Hearts on the table.

Speaking on Five Stars VIP, Miller said: “Had the briefest of chats with James Tavernier after the match and to say he was troubled, he was broken, it probably does not even hit the mark. You could see how visibly upset he was.”

Will Tavernier sign a short-term deal at Rangers?

While Tavernier has become the second choice under Danny Rohl, he is still an important presence inside the dressing room.

There is a high possibility that Gers sign another right-back in the summer, given Dujon Sterling’s fitness issues, and Max Aarons likely returning to his parent club after his loan spell.

This would see Tavernier, the highest earner at Rangers, falling further in the pecking order.

However, even though he is not getting regular minutes, he may be open to playing as a cover for another season and help Rohl rebuild his squad.

These talks are not likely to take place before the end of the season.
