Derek McInnes was officially presented to the media as the new manager of Rangers at Ibrox on Wednesday afternoon.

The 54-year-old former Gers midfielder held his first official press conference at 3 pm alongside Chief Executive Officer Jim Gillespie after putting pen to paper on a three-year deal in Govan.

McInnes cut a confident figure as he fielded questions from journalists, including Hearts fan Ewen Cameron, who demanded he give assurances that he would not raid the Edinburgh outfit this summer.

The Scottish tactician’s arrival has been received well by the Ibrox faithful, with James Tavernier among those who are delighted with the appointment.

What would your concerns be about Derek McInnes replacing Danny Rohl?

Following the presentation, Rangers‘ media team posted a wave of digital content across the club’s official social media channels to document his first day in the hot seat.

Among those keeping a close eye on the updates was former club captain Tavernier.

The long-serving right-back, whose departure was marred by controversy after a fallout with Danny Rohl, made his stance clear with an instant social media reaction.

Tavernier quickly ‘liked’ two separate milestone posts uploaded to the club’s official Instagram account showing the new boss signing the dotted lines on his contract in the Blue Room and sitting in the Ibrox dugout.

The Englishman is without a club after leaving the Premiership giants, and it remains to be seen who he will be playing for next year.

Meanwhile, the Gers are working to replace the veteran, with a deal already in place to bring Ross McCrorie to Glasgow.

Rangers kick off new era

The visual endorsement from the former skipper provides a welcome boost of stability during a swift managerial transition in Govan.

McInnes arrives at Ibrox on a three-year contract following a highly successful spell at Hearts, stepping in to succeed Danny Rohl after his sudden departure to Red Bull Salzburg.

One of the biggest tasks the former Aberdeen manager is expected to address in his initial weeks is to name a new captain to succeed Tavernier.
