Rangers captain James Tavernier has sent his “congratulations” to young Ross McCausland after his first start for the club in the win over Livingston.

The 20-year-old Northern Irish youth international winger has impressed in a string of cameo appearances this season and carried that form into the Scottish Premiership clash at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

Routinely caught up in the thick of the action, Ross McCausland won a penalty and had a goal ruled out in an eventful first half and now James Tavernier has taken the time to congratulate the kid publicly.

Taking to the stories section of Instagram (12/11/23), Rangers captain James Tavernier praised Ross McCausland for his Man of the Match showing in East Lothian.

Sharing an image of the winger, Tavernier said: “Congratulations Ross McCausland on your first start and motm performance”.

James Tavernier the latest to give Ross McCausland praise

As the Rangers captain proves his leadership credentials with the message, James Tavernier hasn’t been the only one praising Ross McCasuland as of late.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement was asked about the former Linfield star after the 2-0 win over Livingston and was focused on keeping the winger’s feet on the ground.

“He did what I expected him to do, he’s very disappointed his goal was disallowed of course,” said McCausland.

“I think he can do better, he has more potential.

“I’m also somebody who gives chances to young players who show the right mentality in training, who do the right things and work hard for the team.

“That is what he has done in training and in the moments he’s come on, he’s been bright and lively.

“He played with personality and worked hard for the team so then I give chances.

“That will continue if he continues in this way.”

Reports have also suggested that Rangers are now locked in contract talks with Ross McCausland after the winger impressed on Europa League duties in midweek.

Reports have suggested that if Rangers cannot tie the young winger down on a new deal before the end of the season, the club stand to lose the kid for around £300k in development fees.
