Even Steven Gerrard was quoted in The Scottish Sun complaining about how exuberant wages are limiting his spending capabilities. One half of the problem – Eduardo Herrera – has since left Ibrox on loan in this window.
Mexican news outlet La Vanguardia even suggested Rangers were ready to rip up the midielder’s contract this month.
As we enter the final stretch of deadline day, a lot of people are waking up to a stark realisation. Carlos Pena will be sitting in the background at Ibrox, earning a fortune.
The entire Pena transfer is one which would be better condemned to Rangers history. Millions were spent on a player who was quite simply incapable of repaying it.
He currently stands as the biggest transfer regret in recent memory at Rangers. At least financially. And unless we can shift him, having him here on such high wages will be one of the biggest regrets of this transfer window.
