Is this the biggest regret of Rangers' transfer window... so far?

Looking back on the last month, this transfer window is not one you’d readily associate with regret at Ibrox.
With the likes of Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis brought in, we’ve beefed up our options going into the business end of the campaign. Rangers look in better nick than they went in.
But in Carlos Pena, there’s an aching sore that just doesn’t seem to be going away. And it’s costing us over £25k a week on medical bills.

Earlier in the window there was
talk of transfer interest in the troubled midfielder from Turkey [source: 24saatfutbol]. It appears that none of the interest has materialised.
The midfielder himself spoke about how he was mulling over his options [source: originally
Multimedios Television as quoted in the Scottish Sun]. It appears he still is, unless one of them is staying at Ibrox and he’s made his decision.
There’s not a peep of movement surrounding Pena, but there is plenty of regret from Ibrox.

Pedro Caixinha signing Pena still proving a costly mistake

Even Steven Gerrard was quoted in The Scottish Sun complaining about how exuberant wages are limiting his spending capabilities. One half of the problem – Eduardo Herrera – has since left Ibrox on loan in this window.
Mexican news outlet La Vanguardia even suggested Rangers were ready to rip up the midielder’s contract this month.

As we enter the final stretch of deadline day, a lot of people are waking up to a stark realisation. Carlos Pena will be sitting in the background at Ibrox, earning a fortune.
The entire Pena transfer is one which would be better condemned to Rangers history. Millions were spent on a player who was quite simply incapable of repaying it.
He currently stands as the biggest transfer regret in recent memory at Rangers. At least financially. And unless we can shift him, having him here on such high wages will be one of the biggest regrets of this transfer window.
