Steven Gerrard is angry that Rangers are wasting around £50k-per-week on both Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera.
The Mexican duo were infamously signed by Pedro Caixinha last season as his revolution blundered spectacularly. Combined, the pair have only managed to make a woeful 10 starts in total for the club.
Pena and Herrera were both shipped out to Necaxa and Santos Laguna respectively for loan deals. Yet both have failed spectacularly with Pena arriving back in Glasgow early whilst Herrera has failed to break into the Laguna side.

Everybody knew that Rangers were spending a fair amount on the duo given their high-profile arrival last summer. The Daily Record, however, believes that the club are losing £50k-per-week on the pair. Speaking in the Record, Gerrard said the following:
“Between now and January 5 we’ll make a decision on Pena. Does he have any future here? I think that would be a very long shot.
“It’s a huge frustration for me when large sums of money are going out of the club and we’re not getting any contribution for it.
“Some of the players not with me are earning big money compared to the rest of the group. That’s money I could be doing with to recycle, make the team stronger and make it compete better.”
Ominous for Pena and Herrera
With Pena in particular on such high wages at Ibrox, there was always the chance that Gerrard looked to make a player out of him. Despite his flop of a period with the club so far, he did manage six goals last season.
It seems, however, that the Rangers manager is a lot more interested in moving he and Herrera on next month. With the amount of wages being wasted on both, Rangers could sign several other players who would make a contribution for that kind of money.

Whilst Pena may have hoped he could’ve had some form of revival, there was always no hope for Herrera. The striker is now 30-years-old, so youth certainly isn’t on his side. In addition to that, he scored just two goals for the club last season.
Getting these two off of the wage bill would be a massive boost for Gerrard and the club. As it stands, Rangers are losing £2.4million each year on both of them, and are getting absolutely nothing in return.
The issue is trying to find a buyer for both. There were rumours that Leon of Mexico were interested in luring back Pena for a third spell. Unfortunately, however, that was dismissed. Interest in Herrera, however, has been non-existent.
Gerrard has laid bare the situation for the duo. To say it doesn’t look positive for them would be a massive understatement.
